AFTERCARE ADVICE

So that you get the best from your treatment and minimise the risk of post treatment complications, we have produced this online guidance for all of the treatments that we provide. If after reading you have any additional questions we are always happy to hear from you and to assist where ever we can.

Dermal Filler

1. After your dermal filler treatment you may find that you are swollen, have bruises or reddening of the area. This is normal and should subside with 1 to 5 days depending upon the severity of bruising.

2. Do not touch the treated area for at least 6 hours. Injections leave tiny open holes and touching with dirty hands or drinking from cans can lead to infection.

3. Do not wear make up for at least 12 Hours unless it is mineral based and then try to keep to a minimum.

4.Avoid extreme cold on the treated area including ice packs. If you need to use a cold compress To reduce discomfort and swelling you should place something between the cool or ice pack such as a cloth or tea towel to avoid direct skin contact.

5. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, UV and extreme heat such as steam rooms, saunas, sunbeds, sun showers etc as this may cause discomfort and swelling.

6. If you have received local numbing in the form of lidocaine cream or injections, please avoid consuming hot drinks or drinks that are extremely cold until full sensation of feeling has returned to the affected area.

7. Do not have facial massages for at least 2 days post treatment as this can unintentionally move the filler.

8. If you experience any lumpiness within the dermal filler implant area this can be smoothed out by gently massaging the area first having lubricated with lip balm or Vaseline. Please follow the directions as provided by your professional Aesthetician.

9. In the unlikely event that you have an issue with the treated area please contact your practitioner to discuss your concerns as soon as possible

10. Please advise your cosmetic practitioner prior to treatment if you have suffered in the past with cold sores on the skin or lips. This viral infection may be re-activated by some injectable treatments. You are advised to take an anti-viral medication such as Zovirax on the day of your treatment and for several days after your treatment (available for purchase from the clinic prior to your treatment) or L-lysine (available from the chemist or health store) for 2-3 days prior to and a week after your treatment. If cold sores develop after your treatment you should use Zovirax medication or similar.

Botox

1. Do not manipulate or rub areas of the injection sites for 24 hours as this can cause the Botox solution to migrate or move around, making it more likely to impact areas beyond the intended muscles.

2. Do not exercise or excessively use the targeted muscle for at least 6 hours after the Botox injection procedure.

3. Do not lay down or bend forward for at least 6 hours after the injection procedure as these actions can cause migration of the solution that can lead to complications and undesired outcomes or effects.

4. While you may see results in as little as 48 to 72 hours after injection, this is not typical. The majority of patients do not notice full impact from the treatment for at least 7 days and sometimes up to 14 days. You should wait at least 30 days before deciding if you want additional treatment to avoid over-treating an area.

5. Although exceptionally rare, an allergic reaction to Botox is possible. If you notice skin redness of an extreme nature, excessive swelling, or a developing rash, call Cavendish Aesthetics immediately for advice or arrange to be seen by a Doctor. The same is necessary if you experience puffy or very swollen eyes, a severe headache, or other adverse reactions. Previous treatments can cause antibodies to develop that can lead to undesired reactions.

Feel free to contact Amanda of Cavendish Aesthetics with questions, comments, or concerns at any time following treatment.

Skin Booster

1. During the first 24–48 hours after treatment you will experience redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated areas. These responses are normal and resolve quickly and spontaneously over the next 2-4 days.

2. You can apply light water-based or mineral makeup where necessary.

3. Drink plenty of cold water for 48 hours after the procedure. This will assist the treatment.

4. Bruising at the site of injection is also common and clears completely in 1-10 days.

Swelling and bruising can give the appearance of ‘unevenness’ in the area treated. This is usual  & will settle once the swelling and bruising has gone. Please contact the clinic for advice if there is any ‘unevenness’ present after 14 days.

5.  Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours, as these may exacerbate bruising and swelling.

•6. Avoid medications such as aspirin or Neurofen for 1-2 weeks as they are blood thinning agents and may exacerbate bruising (if these medications have been advised by your GP please check with your GP before stopping them).

7. Avoid supplements such as multivitamins, fish oils, glucosamine and Vitamin B or Vitamin E, which are blood thinning agents and may exacerbate bruising for 1-2 weeks (if these supplements have been advised by your GP please check with your GP before stopping them).

8. Avoid exercise/exertion for 24 hours.

9. Avoid excess sun exposure or solarium, sunbeds, sun shower, and sauna use for 24 hours post treatment.

10. Apply ice or cooling packs to the treated area frequently or as required to the area injected for up to 6 hours after the treatment ensuring that there is a cloth between the ice pack and skin. This will prevent or help to alleviate any bruising. It will also help to reduce any swelling.

You can also use Arnica cream and arnica tablets (present in your aftercare pack or available for purchase from the clinic) to help alleviate any bruising. NOTE: bruises can last 1-10 days. They are TEMPORARY and will completely disappear over time with no effect on your treatment. Once bruising has formed (within the first 48 hours) it is better to apply warmth to the area to encourage the body’s natural reabsorption of the bruise from the skin.
